{Linky} Got Toys? Thursday Toy Giveaway Link-Up, 3/31

Welcome to the Got Toys? Thursday Giveaway Link-Up!

This link-up is designed to promote your giveaways for children's toys and products! When I'm searching around the blogosphere for giveaways, I love having the chance to win something for my daughter to play with -- and she loves getting new toys! If you're running a giveaway for anything related to children's products -- toys, clothes, feeding products, gift certificates for places that sell children's products -- link them up!!

Chances are, if you add your giveaway here, you'll get at least one entry -- from me! (If I haven't already entered!)

I'd also love it if you followed me on Google Friend Connect, Twitter, or Facebook to be reminded when this goes live each week. (This is not mandatory, just a suggestion!)

Aside from that, feel free to link up as many as you have! Oh, and enter some too!

PLEASE NOTE:
Because this is a giveaway linky for children's products, any non-family friendly giveaways will be removed from the linky (this includes Eden's Fantasy and Pure Romance). This linky isn't for THAT kind of toys, my friends!

Thanks for playing! Good luck with your giveaways!

{CLOSED} Beautiful Custom Jewelry for Mother's Day from The Vintage Pearl {Review & Giveaway}

This giveaway is now CLOSED! Thank you to all who entered! The winner has been drawn and contacted via email and has 48 hours to respond. More giveaways are coming up right around the corner!

This past Christmas the gift I most wanted was a custom piece of jewelry from The Vintage Pearl. Unfortunately, Scott and I both procrastinated on making our Christmas lists, and by the time he was able to order, it was past the shipping deadline. So when I was given the opportunity to work with The Vintage Pearl on a review/giveaway for this blog, I was SO excited! And just in time to be an EARLY Mother's Day surprise! I already had a few things in mind that I really liked, but narrowing it down to the perfect item was a real challenge.

I finally settled on the "I Love You to the Moon and Back" necklace, and added on a Swarovski crystal of my daughter's birthstone as an a la carte item. I chose this one because when I was pregnant with her, we had initially decided that we were not going to find out if she was a boy or girl, and so I fell in love with a gender-neutral celestial theme for the nursery because I thought it embodied the idea that our love for this baby was infinite. Well, I caved, found out she was a girl, and her nursery became butterflies. The sentiment still remained, though, and this necklace is just the perfect way to express it.

The quality of the jewelry is just fantastic. The moon, the name disc, and the chain are all sterling silver, and it feels solid and delicate all at the same time. The Vintage Pearl packages your order really nicely as well... it comes wrapped in a small mesh bag with a polishing cloth to keep your jewelry clean and looking as good as new. Being hand-stamped, it truly is a one-of-a-kind item as well.

I've worn my necklace around the office and while out and about with family and I've gotten nothing but positive compliments on it! I think the my favorite compliment, though, was when I was buckling Angelica into her car seat and she gently took the charm in her hand and said, "Oh, Mommy, I just love your necklace, it's SO beautiful!"

Another thing I love about The Vintage Pearl is that they were started in 2007 by a stay at home mom who taught herself how to make these items through videos and articles online. They now have a website where you can order items online, as well as a storefront in Tulsa, OK, with their workshop in the back. They also give to non-profit organizations that they feel are in line with the organization's morals and values, such as Stop Child Trafficking Now, Tulsa Dream Center, and the Mercy House. You can read more about The Vintage Pearl on their "About" page.

The customer service at The Vintage Pearl can't be beat, and you can rest assured that you are getting a truly unique item. A gift from The Vintage Pearl will touch your heart, or the heart of that special mom in your life.

Buy It: The Vintage Pearl offers a wide variety of amazing, beautiful, unique, and hand-crafted items, starting around $25.

WIN IT! The Vintage Pearl is offering a $50 gift certificate to one LUCKY reader of Angelica's Awesome Adventures! This would help anyone pick the perfect Mother's Day gift!

Running My Butt Off: Week 12

Okay, so where did I leave off? I seem to recall stating on March 1 (week 9) that I was going to lose 8 pounds this month. I'm not going to make excuses -- all I am going to say is that I let life get in the way this month and this goal is most definitely not going to be met. The week after I made the 8 pound goal, hubs came down with the flu. Then I was on vacation. Then I came down with bronchitis the week after. And now here we are.

Week 1: 257
Week 2: 254 (-3)
Week 3: 254 (-0)
Week 4: 254 (-0)
Week 5: 252 (-2)
Week 8: 251 (-1)
Week 9: 252 (+1)
Week 12: 252 (-0)

I guess if I wind up with a net loss/gain of zero for the month I'm doing okay all things considered. April WILL be better!

While I was on vacation a couple of weeks ago, I came up with a pretty fantastic eating plan. Ultimately, I know this has to be a lifestyle change if it's going to stick. I also don't want to crash the weight off because that will result in loss of muscle mass and kill my metabolism. (Thank you, Fat2FitRadio for the scientific explanation about that!) Weight loss for me isn't about the numbers, it's about feeling healthy, being healthy, and making a change that will last for a lifetime. If it means I only lose 1-2 pounds a week (which, by the way, is what is considered a healthy rate of weight loss), I am just fine with that. I'm the tortoise, not the hare. (The hare lost the race anyway, so I wouldn't want to be him).

The frustrating side of this, though, is that my plan included eating a more robust breakfast so that I don't wind up with a sugar crash and end up making poor choices for lunch. Unfortunately, so far I have been unable to force myself to eat the breakfast I had planned - regular Cheerios (grains) with skim milk (dairy), a banana (fruit) and greek yogurt (protein). By the time I finish the Cheerios, I just can't eat anymore. I'm not a morning person and I guess my stomach isn't either. Maybe if I could get more sleep at night I could. I've made it a goal to work on that.

I mentioned Fat2FitRadio a minute ago, and I want to elaborate a bit. It's a health/weight loss podcast that is just fantastic. It comes out about once every ten days. I've been listening to them for a long time now...I had stopped for awhile but I got back into them recently. They advocate healthy weight loss using scientifically proven techniques. One of the hosts has lost 100 pounds since starting the show and using the plan they prescribe. So that's where I am going from here!

I'll leave this post now and go forth and meet goals! I will lose 8 pounds in APRIL! Hooray!

First week of normal!

Today is Monday again, and I'm hoping -- truly hoping -- I'm back to a week of NORMAL! I was out on vacation (which I mostly used to spring clean) two weeks ago, came back last Monday and was sick as a dog by Monday night, and was out Tuesday/Wednesday, had a special event Thursday and played catch up like mad on Friday.

In the midst of all of that, I'm happy to announce -- I landed a new job! I have been in the position I'm in now since September of 2007. Those of you who have followed this blog from the beginning know that this blog started in September of 2007 as well. I was in training (transitioning from another department) for my current job starting in July 2007, officially started on September 3rd and on September 16th, found out I was pregnant with Angelica. (I already told Scott -- let's NOT keep that tradition going. Haha.) The team I work on now has truly been like a second family to me so I am sad to be leaving them, but I am also THRILLED about my new position.

So what will I be doing? I am staying with the same company but will now be an SEO Specialist. I graduated in Dec. 2009 (salutatorian! yay me!) with my master's in Internet Marketing, so this is a huge step  in the right direction career-wise and I am really, really excited to see where things go from here. I don't know for sure when the new position starts -- details are still being worked out -- but it will be within the next couple of weeks. So I need a week of normal in between so I can use the calm to get everything squared away.

Now for a weekend recap...

Friday and Saturday night we went through a Journey to Membership workshop at our church. I mentioned back in January that one of my resolutions this year was to get more involved in the church and seek out membership at some point, and both Scott and I felt ready to make that leap. Our church (not a Christian church -- we are Unitarian Universalists so it is a UU church) asks that people who want to be members go through this workshop because they don't want anyone to go into membership blindly. It wasn't at all a sales presentation and the workshop isn't an obligation to join. It really just went over the history of the faith, the history of our particular church, the social commitments the church makes to the community, and what it really means to be a member.

While we did that, Angelica had a sleepover with Rylie. It's only the 2nd time she's slept overnight somewhere, but we really felt at ease knowing that LeeAnn and Brian were in charge. Outside of family, they're one of the few couples we'd trust with our kid -- and Angelica absolutely adores Rylie and was psyched about this sleepover all week. Friday when I picked her up, her teacher said, "Let me guess -- she's going to Rylie's house?" Yep. She talked everyone's ear off about it. LeeAnn wrote a recap of their fun slumber party on her blog. (Thanks again LeeAnn for hosting such a fun sleepover -- Angelica has been talking about it ever since!)

After the meeting at church, Scott and I celebrated our ten year dating anniversary on Friday night and took advantage of having a kid-free evening to go out to dinner and celebrate. I can't believe it's been a decade since our first date.

Sunday was a fairly normal day. We went to church (again -- we were there every day this weekend) and I volunteered in the nursery while Scott went to services. Sunday night my niece and nephew came to hang out with us, which Angelica was also super excited about. She LOVES her cousins!

Tomorrow I'll probably do my first weight-loss post in a few weeks. It is NOT going to be good...but more on that tomorrow.

Tonight Was Amazing

Sometimes, when you have a toddler-turning-preschooler, it's hard to find moments of peace in between the insanity of "I wanna do its" and "Nos" and temper tantrums that are all normal for this stage of life. But tonight was just magic.

To preface this, I have been REALLY sick this week. I woke up with a slight temperature Monday morning, took some Advil and felt fine so I went for work. Monday night that fever was over 100, and by Tuesday afternoon I had a diagnosis of acute bronchitis/maybe pneumonia. I was out of work for two days and pretty much couldn't move off the couch. So today, after finally being able to get back to work, I was feeling pretty relieved. (Note: I am feeling the side effects of doing too much too soon, my fever is back up over 100 again. Ugh.)

First, the day started off amazing. Angelica came in just before my alarm went off and woke me up saying, "Mommy, I want to snuggle with you."

Anyway, after picking up Angelica from school, I took her to the park. (I blogged about a trip to this very same park about a year ago and today I really marveled at the differences.) I love, love, love Daylight Savings Time because that means that it's still light out when I pick her up and we can do things like this. This evening was everything I hoped it could be.
  • We fed ducks. It was the first time we've done that and Angelica was SO impressed by how close the ducks got to us. It was amazing to watch that happening through her eyes.
  • We watched fish swimming in a lake and Angelica was so excited about it.
  • We met a new friend. In fact, Angelica marched right up to that friend's dad and said, "Hi, I'm Angelica!" LOL...I was sure she was going to be shy, but now I'm second guessing that...
  • I watched Angelica go down a huge tube slide about 100 times. The steps that I reference in that post (that she struggled with and I was scared of her climbing) from last year lead to this slide and she climbed them over and over, no problem. She also used to be terrified of this slide, but this time she kept going down, jumping up and high-fiving me.
  • I sat next to her on the big swings, and I said, "Angelica, isn't tonight a wonderful night?" and she sighed happily and said, "Yeah, it sure is." I thanked her for spending the time with me and she said, "No, thank YOU."
  • Angelica let me push her in a baby swing (slowly -- my girl is not a fan of swings) and every time she swung toward me, she'd kiss me (a miracle for my non-affectionate one) and giggle wildly.
  • There was a squirrel on a lamp post next to the swings chattering away and Angelica thought it was awesome. She also told me he was sad because he lost his drink.
  • We came home, she ate tons of broccoli, exclaiming, "Mommy, I LOVE broccoli!" My healthy girl :)
  • During bath time, she insisted on washing my feet and hands. LOL.
  • She took turns reading stories with me at bed time. I read Ten Apples Up on Top, she read me Dr Seuss's ABCs, I read Are You My Mother, she read me Go Dog Go.
  • She finished the night by asking me with her sleepy voice to rub her back "just for one more minute."
People who say that the threes are worse -- I call shenanigans. If three is going to be like this, it's going to be amazing.

Nights like this are exactly what I envisioned when I first thought about having a baby...when I'd be able to just share in my child's joy and exploration, seeing things through her eyes like it's the first time all over again, and just feeling my heart burst with joy watching her become the truly wonderful little girl she's growing (and going) to be.

Frugal Online Shopping With Coupon Codes from PromotionCode.org

I love the convenience of shopping online! The obvious benefit is being able to search for just the right thing (for the home, for a gift, for my family, or just for myself), all the while relaxing in my pajamas -- even at 3 AM! Having a two (almost three) year old, sometimes it is a challenge to get out and go shopping, which makes online shopping even more attractive. What I love most about online shopping, though, is that sometimes you can get some really fantastic deals that you can't find in the stores, thanks to online promotion or coupon codes.

One of my favorite websites for finding promo codes is PromotionCode.org. As a directory of promotion/coupon codes they're pretty thorough -- but what's particularly great about this site is how they strive for accuracy.

In order to make sure they're offering the best, most accurate, and most recent coupon codes to you, PromotionCode.org spot checks their directory. They also allow users to submit codes and vote on the success of each code, recording the last date the code was known to work. This is so helpful to me as a user! In addition to saving money, I also get to save time by finding a promotion code that is almost guaranteed to work.

PromotionCode.org also has two other fantastic features:
1. You can sign up to have promo codes sent to your email! If you're like me, you get a ton of marketing emails from various online retailers every day. With this option, you can unsubscribe and still ensure you get the most recent promo codes!
2. There is a section of the site dedicated just to free shipping offers. When you combine this with online-only sales that some retailers have, you can quite often get a substantially better deal than you would have in the store!

Next time you're doing some online shopping, make sure you get the best deal by checking PromotionCode.org before you complete your checkout!

Disclaimer: This was a sponsored post on behalf of PromotionCode.org. I was compensated for this post, however, the above represents my opinion and is not influenced by compensation received.

Angelica's First Haircut

About a week ago we took Angelica for her VERY FIRST haircut! Yes, at almost three years old, she finally got a haircut for the first time. For the longest time, she had almost no hair at all, and in all honesty, it wasn't really in dire need of a haircut except for the fact that her bangs were getting in her eyes, and it looked pretty shaggy all over.

Seeing as how this is the girl who wants absolutely nothing more than for people to not touch her hair (I practically have to pin her down to get a brush near her hair), I was really surprised at how well she did. We went to a local place that specializes in kids cuts so the atmosphere was right. They put her in the little car, she got to watch Toy Story, eat a lollipop, and didn't even flinch. She didn't fuss. She just sat there and enjoyed it.

When all was said and done, it came out looking really cute! She didn't have much to work with in the first place, and I was really concerned that when it was done, her curls would be gone, and it would be too short and she'd look babyish. Quite the opposite happened though. It looks fuller, and I think she looks even more grown up. And her hair is even curlier (probably since the baby-fine hair at the ends isn't weighing down her "big girl" hair anymore). I think she looks adorable, and she really likes it too.

Now...maybe the rumors will be true and her hair will actually grow faster now? I can only hope. I'm pretty sure she'll be the only three year old girl without enough hair to make a ponytail!

I could go on and on talking about it all, but pictures really say more than words!

The "before" -- playing with some toys while waiting her turn

The first snip

The stylist evens the hair out

Getting gold sparkles in her hair

The finished product! (Once it was dry it was even curlier!)

{Closed} Healthy, Wholesome Snacks from Buddy Fruits {Review & Giveaway)

Sponsored by Tomoson.com

This giveaway is closed! Thanks to all who entered! The winner has been contacted via email and has 48 hours to respond.

If you're like most parents (myself included), you're concerned with making sure that the foods you feed your child go the extra mile in providing nutrition. When it comes to snacks, that can be especially challenging. If your kid is like mine, he or she probably enjoys things that are sugar-laden and generally unhealthy.

Fortunately, with Buddy Fruits, you can get away from the added sugar and high fructose corn syrup and provide your child with a healthy snack with no sugar added!

I recently received a set of Buddy Fruit packages for my family to sample. We received both the Pure Blended Fruit to Go and the Pure Fruit Bites. Both types provide one full serving of fruit per package with no sugar added, no preservatives, and nothing artifical added. The fruit bites have 95 calories per serving and the blended fruit has 50 calories per serving.

These are just a few of the samples we received.

The blended fruits come in varieties such as: Apple, Apple and Strawberry, Apple and Banana, Apple and Cinnamon, Mango Passion and Banana, and Apple and Multifruit. The fruit bites come varieties such as: Pomegranate and Acai, Apple, and Orange.

To give you an idea of just how natural these products are, the Apple & Banana blended fruit's ingredients are: Apple, banana, concentrated apple juice, and lemon juice. That's it! The fruit bites are generally the same ingredients - juice concentrates with fruit pectin, natural flavor and a glazing agent.

The Blended Fruit is also free of dairy and gluten, and both types are free of GMOs (genetically modified organisms), artificial colors, dairy, and fat. That means that these products also qualify as vegetarian! (My animal loving heart is jumping for joy!)

Both packages are resealable so if your kiddo doesn't finish the package all at once, or he or she wants to come back to it multiple times while playing, you can just close it right up to keep it from spilling or getting contaminated.

The fruit bites packages are also BPA free! I'm always glad to see more products coming on the market that are eliminating the use of BPA.

Angelica is a big fan of gummies, so she loves the Buddy Fruits fruit bites.

She isn't as much of a fan of the blended fruit, but surprisingly, my husband likes them and takes them to work as part of his lunch. It make sense -- it's an easy way for grown-ups to get a serving of fruit into their diets as well.

Buddy Fruits can be purchased at many grocery stores -- I've seen them at our local Publix as low as $1 per package on sale!

Buddy Fruits has generously offered one of my readers a display of Buddy Fruits containing an assortment of blended fruits and fruit bites!

{Closed} Delight Your Child With a Unique Gift From Kidorable {Review and Giveaway}

This giveaway is now CLOSED. Thanks to all who entered! The winner has been contacted via email and has 48 hours to respond.

Thanks to the quality and uniqueness of their products, I've had my eye on Kidorable for awhile.  Last summer we took a trip to a local park to see fireworks for the Fourth of July, and got caught in a rainstorm. Oh, what I would have given to have a raincoat and umbrella for Angelica then!

Recently, Kidorable sent me some adorable product samples that were just what we needed -- a raincoat and an umbrella! The rainy season in Florida is right around the corner and I am so glad that this year we will be prepared.

The two samples I received were from Kidorable's Butterfly line. I am really, truly impressed with the quality of both of these!

The raincoat is made from very durable PVC with a polyester lining, and will definitely keep my kiddo dry during a rainstorm. The raincoat also comes with a matching hanger, which is just adds a really nice touch to the service provided by Kidorable.

Even though Angelica's on the small side weight-wise and normally wears a 2T, I asked for the 3T and even though it's a little big on her, it still fits really well and leaves plenty of room for her to grow into it. She really loves this raincoat -- every time she sees it, rain or shine, she asks to wear it. She's even figured out how to button it up all by herself!

Another awesome touch to the raincoat is the zippered pocket! If your kiddo has a pair of gloves (Kidorable sells some to-die-for knit gloves, by the way), he or she can put them in the zippered pocket and they'll stay dry!

The umbrella is just a delight! We got the matching Butterfly umbrella and it is the perfect complement to Angelica's raincoat.

It is just the perfect kid-sized umbrella. As you can see, it's lightweight enough for Angelica to be able to hold up on her own, and she's even spent some time practicing opening and closing it by herself. She truly loves having an umbrella of her own (and quite honestly, I'm glad I don't have to share mine anymore)!

Yeah, this is bad luck, right?

She's still having fun with it!

In addition to the butterfly line, for girls, they also have: Fairy, Ballerina, Ladybug, Lotus, Lucky Cat, and Mermaid -- and the new English Roses line by Madonna (which is just precious!)

Don't be mistaken by this girly review, though. Kidorable has some great options for boys! Some of the boy styles include Fireman, Frog, Pirate, Dinosaur, and Space Hero!

Buy it: You can purchase Kidorable's umbrellas for $13.50 and their raincoats for $36.00 from their website: http://www.kidorable.com.

Win it: Kidorable is offering one of my awesome readers an umbrella of their choice!
